D&D Character Stats

Sometimes I need to give characters a bunch of magic items or weird powers, which always raises the question of whether I’m making a character too powerful or too weak to be believable. The designers of Dungeons and Dragons ™ overcame this a long time ago by assigning values to everything – character levels, spell levels, challenge ratings, gold piece value, etc. Turning my characters and their possessions into their D&D equivalents is one way I can gauge their relative power. I don’t do this often, but it’s helpful (and fun!) when I do. Plus, then I can play my characters in a game if I feel so inclined.
