Mono-Red Direct Damage and Copy Triggers

Mizzium Tank by Wayne Reynolds

Ever seen the military airdropping a tank from a C-130? Yeah, this deck is kinda like that. Two elite combat units, each with a dragon for aerial support and a Mizzium Tank for ground power, led by Syr Carah, the Bold and her remarkably identical twin Syr Carah, the Bolder (no relation to Mr. Orfeo, the Boulder). This pair-a Carahs isn’t the only doubletake you’ll do. With Mirage Phalanx, Tilonalli’s Skinshifter, Dual Casting, Dual Strike, and more in hand, these airdrop shock jocks will have you and your opponent seeing double!

Speaking of the Skinshifter, you may be tempted to copy a Mizzium Tank (and who wouldn’t want to use their shapeshifting ability to turn into a spiky, lightning-crackling tank that looks like the warped love child of a snapping turtle and a reactor meltdown?) Just remember that copying a target can’t copy its state, so you’ll need another creature to crew your weird Skinshifter Tank. Steam-Kins are great for crewing especially when they’re little because (1) what else are you going to do with a 1/1 storage battery and (2) it’s neat to imagine your angry little steam-bot at the helm of a giant lightning turtle.

Looking for more ways to double your spell-casting power? Use Harness the Storm to pair up your cards in the graveyard with spells you cast from your hand. Or soulbond Mirage Phalanx with Manaform Hellkite and Dual Strike a Volt Charge. I don’t even know what would happen here, but there’s probably a Reddit thread.

Each Mizzium Tank crew offers a different finishing option:

  1. Team Dragon Mage: Did you draw Fateful Showdown with your Dragon Mage’s attack? Cast it, use Dual Casting to copy it, and deal 6 damage each to up to two targets or 12 damage to your opponent on top of the 5 from Dragon Mage. Not enough? Want your cards back? Use Harness the Storm! Don’t forget about Spinerock Knoll – chances are good you just did at least 7 damage.
  2. Team Manaform Hellkite: Use Volt Charge’s Proliferate ability to pile counters on your Steam-Kins and Dwarven Holds. Cast Crackle with Power fueled by aforementioned counters. Deal massive damage. Use Dual Casting to deal massive damage again. Trigger Hellkite, creating a flying, hasted Dragon Illusion token with massive/massive power/toughness. Attack! Don’t forget about Spinerock Knoll – chances are good you just did at least 7 damage.
