Black/Green Counters and Proliferate
Welcome to the sewer! I’ll be your guide today. You say you’re on a Field Trip to Hunt for Specimens? I hope you don’t mind the smell, and I do hope you’ve had all your shots. Mind your step there; it’s slippery, deep, dark, and you really don’t want to know what swims in that water. Oh! You do want to know? Well, let’s begin!
Everything in Sewer Guide wants to use counters to flush your opponent down the pipes. Use Essence Infusion, Subtle Strike, and Pollenbright to get +1/+1 counters on your creatures and Corpsejack Menace to double their effects. Later, after a few rounds of Proliferate, you can use Ooze Flux to turn those counters into some you-really-don’t-wanna-think-about-it sewer oozes.
Gutter Grime, Spell Satchel, Spawning Pit, and others will benefit from multiple use of Proliferate, giving you value in the form of card draw and tokens. Let’s all take a moment to acknowledge the poor Witherbloom student who lost their Spell Satchel down an open manhole.
But the real beauty of the sewer is the contagion! Most of the cards in this deck want to put -1/-1 counters on your opponent’s creatures, and then spread the toxic love around and around until your opponent’s army is circling the drain. Use Grim Affliction and Incremental Blight to get the infection started, then Contagion Clasp to drive it deep and Blowfly Infestation to spread it to the next victim. Trigger Hapatra and Obelisk Spider to build your army and ping your opponent.
Rogue’s Passage is a great finisher; send a full-powered Deity of Scars, a massive ooze courtesy of Gutter Grime, or a buffed-up Blightbeetle blessed by Voice of the Vermin down the tunnel to strike the fatal blow. How much of a pottymouth is your opponent? You’re about to find out!
You might wonder why Kappa Tech-Wrecker is in this deck? I have a new policy of putting one random Ninja with the ninjutsu ability into any deck that has room for another card. I just like springing random Ninjas on my opponent ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
