Red/White/Black Artifacts and ETB Damage Triggers

Brimstone Trebuchet by Yeong-Hao Han

Rule #1 of being a siege engineer: ANYTHING can go in a catapult. Rocks? Yes. Garbage? Definitely. Corpses? Brilliant. That weird statue you looted from the cultists? Absolutely. Your pestiferous commanding officer? See Rule #1.

Ingenious Artillerist and Reckless Fireweaver provide a steady source of damage, while Jan Jansen, Osgir, and Digsite Engineer replenish your inventory. A mob of talented goblins offer further support.

Use direct damage spells, enchantments like Makeshift Munitions and Goblin Bombardment, or artifacts like Brimstone Trebuchet, Goblin Charbelcher, and Dragonspark Reactor to clear the board. Prized Statue and Weapon Rack make great fodder for Makeshift Munitions after they’ve used up their value – don’t forget you can copy either of them with Sculpting Steel for added bonuses. Oni-Cult Anvil provides a steady source of artifact ETB triggers for Artillerist and Fireweaver, good sacrifice fodder for Malefic Scythe and Goblin Bombardment, and bonuses for Nettlecyst and Bronze Guardian.

Run out of things to throw and need to close the distance for melee? There’s plenty of small, cheap creatures to dispose of, putting counters on Malefic Scythe. Nettlecyst can potentially become huge – don’t forget to count your artifact lands and Treasures when tallying artifact bonuses.

To finish, wade in with a massive Malefic Scythe or pair a late-game Downhill Charge with Hot Soup for (potentially) 14+ unblockable damage. Or if you don’t have evasion, pour your mana into Arc Spitter to put big blockers in their ground where they belong. Wait, what about lands, you say? Can I also throw those at my opponent? See Rule #1! Akki Avalanchers gets a power bonus from sacrificing land; choose an artifact land, then use Goblin Welder to bring it back, triggering Toggo and other ETB effects and Oni-Cult Anvil’s LTB effect. Fire away!
